John Squire’s Penguin Decades covers

Penguin launched its Decades series this month, with five titles each representing the best novels of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.

You can view the rest of the covers for classics from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, here. They were created by Peter Blake (50s), Allen Jones (60s), and Zandra Rhodes (70s) under the art direction of John Hamilton at Penguin.

This is a small collection from the 80’s ! We like this.

Seb Lester’s new JD Salinger book jacket designs

So we are all familiar with JD Salinger and his unique rugged writing style which has been converted into four outstanding books ~ but it is his particular “simple & basic” creative direction which leads his thoughts to compel such a wide audience.

In this particular project, Seb Lester was comissioned to come up with the basic design of creating the title along with the author. As per usual no quotes or plot summary, no author biography. And definitely no images. Just the title and his name.

Lester was under this strict guideline of Salinger, which influenced him to create a conservative and classical in nature design.

“I feel incredibly privileged to have worked on this project,” Lester tells us. “It really felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity so the pressure was on – not least because I knew JD Salinger would be approving the book jackets himself.”

Here are four finished cover book designs which feature Lester’s specially drawn typeface, known within Hamish Hamiltion as ‘The Salinger’, which reflect the pure style of both artists.

Interiors

An interesting read I found while surfing through different design channels. I believe that Wonderwall has been responsible for the many gorgeous interior designs you may have come across. Founded by Masamichi Katayama in 2000, they have just recently launched their web site with some cool visual effects.
