PROPAGANDA REVOLUTION

Last night we had a blast supporting our friends at their exhibition for a charity event: PROPOGANDA REVOLUTION.

The artists featured were reknowned photographer LAURENT SEGRETIER and the boys CEET, KONGO, and LAZOO from the infamous French street graffiti crew (MAC). The night started off with some early cocktails, some cool lounge music which later kicked on to a successful auction, leaving everybody happy with something to take home. Fouad aka CEET was a happy man selling his biggest piece to a fair and whopping HK$100,000. All the artists managed to sell their works, to add the vibrance of the evening.

CIPHER has been cooking up some work with both CEET and LAURENT for our up and coming MIXTAPE release, so stay tuned as the website is to be launched very soon.

Must say a big thank you to Anais from Chokoli Strawberry for making another great event, and a big thank you to all the artists and friends involved !

Check KONGO wearing some CIPHER grey LIBERTINES below at M1NT bar. This is how the story went..

John Squire’s Penguin Decades covers

Penguin launched its Decades series this month, with five titles each representing the best novels of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.

You can view the rest of the covers for classics from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, here. They were created by Peter Blake (50s), Allen Jones (60s), and Zandra Rhodes (70s) under the art direction of John Hamilton at Penguin.

This is a small collection from the 80’s ! We like this.

Jackson

MH_JacksonPollock2

Yes its Jackson Pollock, the Expressionist painter. A ‘true Pollock’ was a work induced with such harmony and skill that he could create fractal patterns close to those found in nature. Pollock, for me was the most reclusive artist for his fluid and complex thoughts. His work could illustrate a story within the painting, combined with an abstract form of technique and movement. A mathematical representation of order and chaos. His ‘dripping technique’ and unique vision can be influenced from early works made by the Indians and the Mexicans. Pollock shared an experience with each work as he was painting its life. His work is evidence for the natural relationship he shared with each piece. This week, I am happy to share this little tribute to a legacy of the Pollock.

Alexa Meade

I will have to apologize for the lack of posts this past week, my newsfeed has been over loading, and there has been some interesting things cooking around the Cipher team. This is an artist which managed to slip by my fingers. Alexa Meade, has  painting techniques which push the boundary of perception by compressing three dimensional subjects into two dimensional planes. You have probably seen her works pop up around the viral buzz of things, but be sure to check her extra ordinary work !

Alexa Meade’s innovative use of paint on the three dimensional surfaces of found objects, live models, and architectural spaces has been incorporated into a series of installations that create a perceptual shift in how we experience and interpret spatial relationships.

David Byrne “Ride, Rise, Roar”

David Byrne is a huge inspiration for many artists, responsible for numerous achievements and success stories through out an exhilarating career. David, has been kept busy with new tracks for charity albums and his own solo projects on record, working in a variety of media, including film, photography, opera and internet-based projects. David is also a visual artist, who has shown works in contemporary art galleries and museums as early as the 90’s. If you haven’t checked out his most recent works, collaborating a revival with old friend and musician Brian Eno to then move on to the newer generation to the likes of Santigold. A much anticipated documentary called “Ride, Rise, Roar” will be releasing very soon, and I know I will be sitting on the edge of my seat anxiously waiting, whether it be at a theatre or on my laptop ! So stay informed.
