PROPAGANDA REVOLUTION

Last night we had a blast supporting our friends at their exhibition for a charity event: PROPOGANDA REVOLUTION.

The artists featured were reknowned photographer LAURENT SEGRETIER and the boys CEET, KONGO, and LAZOO from the infamous French street graffiti crew (MAC). The night started off with some early cocktails, some cool lounge music which later kicked on to a successful auction, leaving everybody happy with something to take home. Fouad aka CEET was a happy man selling his biggest piece to a fair and whopping HK$100,000. All the artists managed to sell their works, to add the vibrance of the evening.

CIPHER has been cooking up some work with both CEET and LAURENT for our up and coming MIXTAPE release, so stay tuned as the website is to be launched very soon.

Must say a big thank you to Anais from Chokoli Strawberry for making another great event, and a big thank you to all the artists and friends involved !

Check KONGO wearing some CIPHER grey LIBERTINES below at M1NT bar. This is how the story went..

Computer Love in a Computer World

KRAFTWERK

3797566427_b68e13dfdc

Ze crafty Germans and their electric percussion, was really the first introduction I had to appreciate the diversity behind the electronic revolution.  They communicate sound through a vocoder or generated by computer-speech software. Their fascination for computer technology and distinctive rhythm was revolutionary for their time, in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Kraftwerk illustrates some of the homages to everything from German culture to the quickly approaching digital age. A computer world in the eyes of a band who deepened my understanding for the pioneers into electronic music.

GURU

Rest in Peace to one of the original roots of hip hop – Guru. He brought the essence of true lyrics, uplifting a raw new style which infused an ensemble between hip hop and jazz. The Jazzmatazz series was his most sought after solo project featuring featured collaborations with Donald Byrd, N’Dea Davenport, and Roy Ayers, while his second LP, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, featured Ramsey Lewis,Branford Marsalis and Jamiroquai.

Gang Starr was a duo colab between Guru and producer DJ Premier. Their style combined elements of New York swing jazz in the  deep roots of the New York hip hop scene. Gang Starr was a true foundation which will be forever recognized as an original influence for hip hop, a mark for most, and a swift reminder or code for the streets.

John Squire’s Penguin Decades covers

Penguin launched its Decades series this month, with five titles each representing the best novels of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.

You can view the rest of the covers for classics from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, here. They were created by Peter Blake (50s), Allen Jones (60s), and Zandra Rhodes (70s) under the art direction of John Hamilton at Penguin.

This is a small collection from the 80’s ! We like this.
